The prophet Isaiah says, the world will change when the green shoot comes out of the centuries-old dead stump of Israel. In this new world Jesus reigns, "the wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them. 7The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder’s den."(Isaiah 11:6-8)
As we may sit with God on our own dead stumps of our hearts, we may ask God, "Lord God, who are the leopard, the lion, the bear or the asp in our own nation and in our own societies? What does it mean for us to wait for a godly kingdom to reign in this Advent Season so that the powerful may live in harmony and in peace with the powerless and the vulnerable?"
We are a small congregation and I as an immigrant female pastor of the church may appear to be nothing more than a trivial little person. But wouldn’t you be curious about what awesome green sprouts God may grow out of our church ministry, if you worked with me and our congregation for God and God’s reign to establish in this world, starting where we are?
